Netflix has decided not to continue the journey to space with My Dad the Bounty Hunter. The animated series has been quietly canceled after two seasons and 19 episodes. The second season of My Dad the Bounty Hunter premiered in August 2023, and the lack of updates since then led to speculation on social media about its future. What’s on Netflix was the first to report the cancellation.

Co-created by Everett Downing Jr., a Pixar veteran and director of Netflix’s We the People, along with Patrick Harpin, My Dad the Bounty Hunter follows two children who sneak aboard their father’s spaceship, only to discover that he is an intergalactic bounty hunter.
Laz Alonso, Yvonne Orji, Priah Ferguson, and JeCobi Swain voice the central family, with Harpin, Downing, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jamie Chung, Rob Riggle, and Maddie Taylor also part of the voice cast.
Despite its cancellation, My Dad the Bounty Hunter performed well in terms of viewership on Netflix. The show made it to the streamer's global top 10 for English-language seriesEnglish-language series the week after season two premiered and appeared among Nielsen's top 10 original streaming series twice after season one's release in February 2023.
Netflix's engagement reports for 2023 indicate that season one garnered 86.5 million hours of viewing worldwide over more than 10 months, while season two accumulated 26.7 million hours in just 3 1/2 months.
Netflix has been scaling back its original programming for kids and families in recent years. It has discontinued several live-action shows since the start of the decade and has also concluded animated series, including preschool shows like Ada Twist, Scientist, Ridley Jones, and Spirit Rangers, as well as series aimed at slightly older audiences like Oddballs, Maya and the Three, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and now My Dad the Bounty Hunter.
