In addition to his role in Dexter: Resurrection, Hall will also provide the narration for the inner voice of a young Dexter, portrayed by Patrick Gibson, in the previously announced prequel series Dexter: Original Sin.

This prequel is set in the 1990s, while Dexter: Resurrection continues the story from 2021's Dexter: New Blood, taking place in the present day.

The announcement came during a surprise appearance by Hall and Clyde Phillips, the executive producer and showrunner of both series, at San Diego Comic-Con, during the panel for Dexter: Original Sin on Friday.

“We are excited to welcome the extraordinary Michael C. Hall back to his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and president/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, stated.

Dexter: Resurrection will captivate the millions of devoted fans, while Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a new generation to this legendary series by starting from the beginning, ensuring that it meets the expectations of longtime viewers as well.”

Dexter first premiered in 2006 and ran for eight seasons with Michael C. Hall in the lead role. After gaining a cult following, Dexter: New Blood, a limited series set a decade after the original's end, debuted in 2021.

Dexter: Original Sin is scheduled to premiere in December 2024, while Dexter: Resurrection will launch in the summer of 2025. In the meantime, both Dexter and Dexter: New Blood are available for streaming on Paramount+ with the Showtime plan.
