The streamer has greenlit a Lisa Frank docuseries from director Arianna LaPenne and Sony Pictures Television’s Maxine Productions, known for Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. This series promises to dive into the colorful yet mysterious world of the once-iconic brand.
Titled Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Story, the four-part documentary event will explore the neon-soaked universe of Lisa Frank Inc., a brand that once defined girlhood in America before seemingly vanishing overnight.
Beyond the rainbows and trippy illustrations, the series will peel back layers to reveal a stranger-than-fiction, nostalgia-filled tale that uncovers the hidden secrets lurking within the company for decades.
The project will showcase never-before-seen footage and include over 20 interviews with insiders, fans, and journalists connected to Lisa Frank, Inc.
“Lisa Frank's iconic rainbow-hued brand triggers nostalgic memories for generations of students – yet so much more was happening behind the scenes,” said Lauren Anderson, head of Brand and Content Innovation at Amazon MGM Studios. “Thanks to Maxine Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Alysia Russo — the series' earliest advocate — viewers will uncover the reality hidden behind the neon.”
Maxine Productions' founder and president, Mary Robertson, also shared her thoughts. “Like many, I have a deep emotional connection to Lisa Frank products, cherishing the whimsy, magic, and creativity they brought to everyday life,” she expressed.
“I am truly honored to work with our amazing director, Arianna LaPenne, showrunner Lisa Kalikow, Amazon Prime Video, Sony Pictures Television – Nonfiction, and my incredible team at Maxine Productions to tell this astonishing true story that might forever change how you see rainbows and unicorns.”
