Fans had speculated about the "Shallow" singer's appearance on the River Seine stage in Paris, alongside other rumored artists such as Celine Dion, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, and French singer Aya Nakamura. However, the official lineup of performers has largely remained secret.
NBC News noted that rumors intensified after Gaga and Dion were seen arriving in Paris ahead of the Olympics, a renowned global multisport event. The A Star Is Born actress was spotted in social media videos on Monday, waving to fans from her car in the French capital.
Gaga, a Grammy- and Oscar-winning artist, has been quite busy over the past few years. She filmed the upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux, where she portrays Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck/Joker, and headlined her Las Vegas residency show, Enigma + Jazz & Piano.
In 2022, she also toured internationally for her seventh headlining concert tour, The Chromatica Ball, in support of her sixth studio album, Chromatica.
Lady Gaga's Olympic opening ceremony performance will be her first time on a televised stage since her stripped-down rendition of "Hold My Hand" at the 95th Academy Awards last year. The song, featured in Top Gun: Maverick, was nominated for Best Original Song.
Earlier this week, the French newspaper Le Parisien reported that Celine Dion is set to perform "L’Hymne à l’amour" by Édith Piaf at the Olympics. This would mark Dion's first performance since announcing her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis and canceling her Courage World Tour.
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics will be broadcast on NBC at 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday and will be available for streaming on Peacock and NBC Olympics platforms.
