Rob McElhenney, star and creator of Sunny, confirmed the collaboration in an Instagram post and story on Thursday. He shared a picture featuring himself, Sunny co-star Charlie Day, and Abbott star and creator Quinta Brunson posing at what seemed to be the Warner Bros. lot, where Abbott is filmed. McElhenney captioned the post with a simple: “Oh. Hello.”

In his Instagram story, McElhenney shared another photo, this time with Sunny star Danny DeVito alongside Abbott actors Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis.

This announcement comes after months of speculation about a potential collaboration between the two shows. Back in July, during Comic-Con, Brunson hinted at a crossover episode for Abbott’s fourth season, which is set to premiere on Oct. 9.

“We have an interesting crossover planned for this season … but I’m not going to reveal who, what, where, when, or how,” Brunson teased. “It’s really exciting, and I believe it will change television as we know it.”

Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny share a connection through the Disney family. Abbott airs on ABC, while Sunny is part of FX. Both shows are also set in Philadelphia, with Sunny debuting its 16th season last summer.

Last month, both shows were represented at the Emmy Awards. Sunny stars McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson, who are married in real life, presented at the event where Abbott Elementary was nominated for several Emmys, including Best Comedy Series.
