Tom Selleck is still figuring out how to bid farewell to Frank Reagan. The actor recently expressed his "frustration" over CBS's decision to cancel Blue Bloods and believes the show was undervalued during its 14-year run.

“In the final eight episodes, I didn’t want to focus on the ending of Blue Bloods but rather on how successful it still was,” said Selleck, who portrays the NYPD commissioner in the CBS drama, in an interview with TV Insider.

Selleck also mentioned an unspecified list of top shows from 2023-24, noting, “If you exclude the three football shows, we’re ranked #6!” While he emphasized not wanting to come across as “a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn,’” he admitted he's still coming to terms with the network’s decision to cancel such a popular series.

“If you were to tell the network, ‘Here’s a show that can air in your worst time slot and guarantee winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would seem unbelievable,” he remarked. “My frustration stems from the fact that the show was always taken for granted because it performed consistently from the start.”

Selleck acknowledged that it will “take a while to process everything” and that adjusting to life without Blue Bloods will take time. “After the weekend following the final episode’s shoot, I remember thinking, ‘I need to go to bed early because I have to prepare my lines for Monday.’ But there was no Monday. It’s going to take some time to get used to.”

In another part of the interview, Selleck offered a glimpse into the show’s upcoming final episode. “The family dinner brings the Reagan family back together,” he shared.

“Erin’s daughter Nicky [Sami Gayle] and Danny’s older son Jack [Tony Terraciano] were both there. Everyone agreed that we should close the set for the family dinner and keep it private.”

The reunion was especially meaningful for Selleck, who considers the cast like family. “There wasn’t a single person who didn’t want to return,” he said. “Most shows don’t end that way—there’s usually some jealousy and other issues—but we overcame all of that. It’s something we can all take pride in.”
