On Tuesday, franchise star Neve Campbell and director Kevin Williamson took to social media to announce that Scream VII will arrive in theaters on February 27, 2026.
Campbell helped save the revived franchise earlier this year by confirming her return after skipping Scream VI due to a salary dispute with producer Spyglass. Alongside her comeback, Campbell revealed that Williamson, the franchise creator, will take the director's chair.
Williamson penned the original 1996 Scream, along with Scream 2 and Scream 4. Guy Busick, the writer of the 2022 Scream and Scream VI, will replace James Vanderbilt, who is currently tied up directing Nuremberg.
Scream VII underwent significant changes after last year’s firing of star Melissa Barrera over controversial social media posts related to the Israel-Hamas War, along with Jenna Ortega's quiet departure months earlier. Following these exits, original director Christopher Landon also left the project.
Campbell's return is seen as a crucial boost for the series, as her character, Sidney Prescott, has been the emotional core since the first film.
The trio behind Radio Silence reinvigorated the franchise with 2022’s Scream, which included Campbell. A year later, Scream VI broke franchise records, grossing $44.5 million during its opening weekend and earning $166.3 million globally.
James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment are producing.
